“I don’t fit in here”, “Soon enough everyone is going to find out that I am not qualified for this job”

Have you ever felt this way? Like, you don’t deserve to be appreciated because the effort you performed to get it was based on pure luck or happened by chance, and you don’t deserve credit?

Don’t worry it is nothing unusual. Most of us might have gone through these thoughts at some point in our life. Even Tom Hanks, Lady Gaga and 82 to 92 percent of people have had similar experiences. So you are not alone in this dilemma of life.

According to its definition in Wikipedia, “Impostor Syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or impostorism) is a psychological occurrence in which an individual doubts their skills, talents, or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a fraud. Despite external evidence of their competence, those experiencing this phenomenon do not believe they deserve their success or luck”

So now we understand it is not something that is unusual or bizarre. Let’s see how we can get rid of it? Unfortunately, the answer is you can’t get rid of it.

However, you may work on lowering your inner critic by affirming that you are here for the other person. You are not here to prove to you or to others that you are the smartest person in the room.Once you let go of that projected image of yourself – who you thought you are . It will be a lot easier to perform without doubting yourself.

Anyhow, there are some life hacks that helps you to withstand this situation and they are:

  1. Know that you are not alone
  2. Know the signs
  3. Let go of perfectionism
  4. Say ‘yes’ to new opportunities

Because…“If you doubt yourself; shouldn’t you also doubt your judgment of yourself!?”
